My Minnesota Wedding

September 21, 2019. A perfect day, at least in my book. The day Devin and I got married. Our day went by way too fast, but it was such an amazing day. We had the best wedding party, the most supportive family, and the most fun guests! Our big day took place in Luverne, Minnesota. We did all our outdoor photos at Blue Mounds State Park.

Getting Ready

The day start off with pouring rain. Obviously, as a photographer, I was really nervous it was going to keep raining and I would get no outdoor photos (which is something I REALLY wanted). Luckily around 10am the rain stopped and the sun came out, which made it a little humid outside. But, that didn’t bother me one bit! My girls and I got married at my best friend’s mom’s house (AKA my hair stylist, Kristi Knutson). Devin and his guys got ready at our house in town. We both had mimosas and breakfast while getting ready.

It was a super relaxed morning! I scheduled plenty of time to get ready and enjoy the morning. We had hair and makeup scheduled from about 7:30am to 11:30am for 11+ women (2 hair stylists and 1 makeup artist). My hair stylists were Tina Talsma and Kristi Knutson, and my makeup artist was Halie Schaap.

Photo Time

Once I was all ready, I shared a first look with my dad and then Devin. Devin and I wrote notes to each other and read them aloud, back to back, before the first look. It was such a perfect moment that I love to look back on. I highly recommend doing this!

Once our first look was done, we went straight into bride and groom portraits with out amazing photographer, Britany Moser. Wedding party and family photos followed after. All together, I set aside 3 hours total for all photos. Another tip: Devin and I made sure to have lunch (buns, chips, and drinks) at the location of where our photos were. This made it nice for wedding party and family to grab a bite before all the photos!

Ceremony and Sunset Photos

The ceremony was set for 4:00pm at the American Reformed Church in Luverne, Minnesota. During the ceremony, Devin and I planted a plant for our unity. After the ceremony, everyone hopped on the party bus to drive over to our reception. Before we left town, the bus stopped at Blue Mounds for sunset photos. Devin and I took 15 minutes to take these and it was the best decision! These photos are some of my absolute favorite photos of the whole day.

I highly recommend taking time out of your day to take some sunset photos! Once photos were done, we drove to one bar for a drink and then headed to our reception at the Holiday Inn in Brandon, South Dakota.

Reception

Our reception was catered by Tony’s Catering, Nothing Bundt Cakes did our desserts, DJ Cody C was our DJ, and Olive & Grace did our florals. We ate, toasted, and danced the night away. It was such an amazing day that I wish we could do all over again and again.

But, I will just relive my day through my amazing photos and video! As always, I highly recommend investing in these two vendors FOR SURE. It is one of the only things you can take with you after your wedding day is done.
